Prior to the events being held on Memorial Day, the Hometown Hero banners were placed on telephone poles located on several main streets (Upland Avenue, Main Street and 6th Street). We are grateful for their service. Please click the link to view a miniature copy of the banners that were hung with location key and map.
The Memorial Day service started off at the Upland Baptist Church at Reverend MacQueen’s grave and then moved to the grave of Captain Blakely who served and died in the Civil War.
Immediately after the services at the Upland Baptist Church the Annual Memorial Day Parade started by turning down 3rd Street to Upland Avenue and wove it’s way up 8th Street to Mulberry Street to 9th Street then onto Church Street ending up at the War Memorial located on 6th Street.
The services held at the War Memorial, flanked by Hometown Hero banners, Councilman Richard McClintock served as the master of ceremony announcing the newly elected Commandant of the Marine Corp League Detachment #288 Ray Diggins.
After the services held at the War Memorial, the Upland Baptist Church and Resurrection Church held their Annual Memorial Day Picnic in the park.
